MATOVICH-CARY_low-resCarey Matovich is a Billings, Montana, lawyer with a broad-based civil and appellate practice, emphasizing insurance law and commercial litigation. She has served as lead attorney in the defense of numerous of complex disputes, ranging from unfair insurance trade practices, employment discrimination matters, professional negligence claims to contract disputes. In addition, she is frequently asked to act as a mediator in various matters.

Carey is active in various state and national bar committees and served on Montana’s Commission on Practice from 2001 to 2012, and on Montana’s Commission on Civil Jury Instructions since 1999. She is a faculty member for the Advanced Trial Advocacy Program at the University of Montana, and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

She is admitted to practice before all Montana state courts, the U.S. District Court, District of Montana and District of Colorado, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth and Tenth Circuits, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court.

Carey was raised on a cattle ranch in Eastern Montana and received her undergraduate degree and law Carey_E_Matovich-DK-250degrees from the University of Montana, where she was a member of the 1981 championship Moot Court Team and recipient of the national award for Best Oral Advocate.

She has been named in Best Lawyers in America every year since 2003 and is a member of the Montana Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), as well as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

When not involved in her trial practice, Carey enjoys fly fishing and camping in Montana’s wilderness areas and national parks, and skiing at one of Montana’s pristine ski areas.
